Hugh J. Lofting Construction Management Services, LLC (HJLCMS) was founded in 2007 when a client asked Hugh Lofting to general contract a LEED project. Years of similar requests coupled with Hugh’s commitment to environmental responsibility helped make his decision. HJLCMS provides building services for clients who desire highly efficient, sustainable homes. Our team can collaborate with a client’s architect or provide design services in-house. Our charrette-based process brings together key elements of the building team, including the electrician, plumber, HVAC mechanics, engineers, architect, and landscape designer to ensure the smoothest design and construction process. By assembling the full team early on, and working closely with the homeowner, we share ideas and set sustainability and lifestyle goals for the house and site. Building orientation and building systems are addressed early for maximum energy efficiency. HJLCMS’s focus on sustainability is backed by its Passive House Institute U.S. (PHIUS) certification. The PHIUS designation means the company understands passive house principles, continues to evolve techniques specific to passive construction, and can meet challenges specific to North American climate zones. HJLCMS regularly partners with sister company Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc., who holds Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) Chain of Custody certification, ensuring materials used on projects come from responsibly managed forests. HJLCMS maintains a strong commitment to creating sustainable, beautiful, long-lasting, and well-crafted homes. Our projects have included green roofs, geothermal wells, rainwater catchment, stormwater management with bioswales, and solar power.  HJLCMS has completed a LEED for Homes Silver Certified residence in Kennett Square, PA, an off-the-grid residence in Annapolis, MD, which is also LEED Silver Certified, and has 2 Passive House projects under construction.
